JAY-Zが帰ってきた——そして容赦しなかった。

5月30日、JAY-ZはフィラデルフィアのFairmount Park内、Belmont Plateauで開催された年次コンサート「Roots Picnic」にヘッドライナーとして登場。本編に入る前に、アカペラのサプライズフリースタイルを披露し、自分に向けてきた複数の人物に対して一斉に反撃を見せた。

Drakeが『Iceman』でJAY-Zをサブリミナルディスしたことへの返答とみられる。「チャートを見直せ、俺は10点リードしてる。みんな俺を見上げてる、俺は誰も見上げたことない。お前らの出版権はあいつらに持っていかれてる——そっちに吠えてみろ」といった内容で、契約面での弱さを指摘するラインも含まれていた。

昨年Yeが自分の子供たちをディスしたことへの返答とみられる。「神童ってものを知ってるか？俺の子供たちがそれだ。恥というものを知れ」とラップし、「俺の前に立てば正気に戻る」と威圧した。

Roots Picnicという大舞台でのサプライズフリースタイルで、Hovはヒップホップシーンにおける自身の地位を改めて世界に示した形だ。
